Please recommend an inexpensive pinot noir.

Do understand that different wines tend to go well with different foods. A light red with lamb, a heavy red with beef, and so on. But what’s most important is what you like. You and you alone are the sole arbiter.

I have heart disease in my mom’s family. It killed several of my grandfather’s brothers in the 1960’s.

Two cousins (my mom’s sister) both had coronary disease. One died three years ago. He had just seen his cardiologist to check on his stent a couple months earlier. The other cousin had a major bypass and is doing ok. My mom’s other sister had 4 children. I haven’t seen them since the 1970’s and don’t know about their health.

I had a full checkup two years ago. Wore the monitor for a couple days and did a stress test. I got cleared for a routine surgery. AFAIK my heart is ok.

It can’t hurt to try 5 oz of wine a day. That’s a trivial amount and doesn’t cost much. I may develop a taste for it. I didn’t like coffee until I drank it for awhile with lots of cream & sugar. Now I enjoy it black.

Maybe wine will help. Maybe it won’t. I have nothing to lose by trying. I will still continue followups with my cardiologist.

It’s all part of aging. Things start going wrong.

aceplace57 you sound like me with yogurt. I did not like it but I knew it was good for me - I started with it as an ingredient in fruit smoothies, and now I like it fine on its own, So if you don’t like the wine, try whirling it up with some frozen bananas and blueberries! Just kidding! Although you could make sangria, come to think of it. In any case, I hope your daily glass becomes an enjoyable ritual for you! Many people love red wine with dark chocolate, which is also good for your heart I think, so maybe that would be nice for you too.

Rex Goliath is not too bad. I think we got sucked in by the label. My wife is Kooky for the Chicken.

Ah, old Rex. Good times.

I started on yogurt too. Back in 2005 and just recently switched from Activia to Stonyfield.

I’ll try some dark chocolate with the wine.

I thought cheese & crackers would go with it too.

We go through boxes of Fish Eye Shiraz like it was water. Stay away from it! Or buy a few, but be warned.

Drink wine if you like it, but I doubt that you’re going to see any tangible health benefit from doing so.

Confess! You bought it for the label, too!

I’ve heard of a number of physicians urging their patients to drink red wine. My doctor recommended an 8 oz glass every evening.

Did I mention that my doctor is brilliant? And as soon as he prescribes Medical Weed for my ennui, he’ll be BITCHIN’ brilliant.

That’s so true. Truth be told, I’m not super-wild about red wine. I know what I like, insofar as I like any of it- usually I drink it as a counterpart to food. If I’m just having a drink, I’m far more likely to get something else- white wine, mixed drink or beer than a glass of red wine.

An actual GOOD red wine is very enjoyable, even by someone like me for who red wine is not a first choice. But most wines are not good by that sort of measure- not even close. And they vary by year to year by winery and region. So it’s sort of like a series of small gambles to see if you got a good combination or not- I can totally see how someone might get into that, plus you get to drink a lot of ok wine in the bargain.
