I confess, while I won’t listen to a British comic just because of the accent (RP please!) it does add extra enjoyment when I do like one.

Aisha Tyler. It took me a minute to get used to Lana Kane from Archer’s voice coming out of a real life person, but Aisha Tyler’s standup is hilarious.

While I like Lewis Black, Norm McDonald, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Dennis Miller, Ron White and others, nobody and I mean nobody has ever made me laugh as hard as **Rodney Carrington**. We saw him at Verizon and he had the entire theater rolling for an hour and a half as he just sat on a stool and started telling stories. That sonuvabitch is freakin’ hilarious.

Dara has a distinct Irish accent but I’ve never found him unintelligible (well, except when he actually speaks _Irish_ 🙂 ).

For a comparison, listen to his Pope ‘bit’ and then listen to Jim Gaffigan’s pope bit. The difference is like night and day.

Eddie Izzard’s _Dressed to Kill_ is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
The funniest comedian I’ve seen live in a club is probably Dave Attell.

More seriously though, If you like funny songs, try Stephen Lynch.
I’ll also second Rodney Carrington. Listened to a cd of his in the car and almost had to pull over because I was laughing so hard and my eyes were watering.

Was it when Carrington was trying to decide if Toby Keith was being so nice to him because he either wanted to be friends or he wanted to fuck him? Or maybe it was from one of his songs like Titties and Beer or Put Your Clothes Back On?
That guy gives me six pack abs, plus he plays a helluva guitar.

I agree with both these statements. Even though I think Izzard is hit or miss I think Dressed To Kill is if not the best, at least in the top 5 filmed standup routines of all time.
From those I’ve seen live over the last few years I’d rank them Breuer, Attell then Titus. Titus comes in third because I think the material he did that time wasn’t quite as strong as some of his other stuff but it was still great.

Lynch kind of fell off the face of the earth for a while. I hear he is back with new material but I haven’t heard it.

Ok, tonight I tried:
Jim Norton
Bill Burr
Ron White
Bill Maher
John Oliver
Hari Kondabolu, whom I found by accident
Milton Jones
Hannibal Burress
Amy Schumer
Out of those three I liked Bill Burr (loved Bill Burr!), John Oliver, and Amy Schumer. Milton Jones just doesn’t sound or look like he’s enjoying it at all! I can’t stand the way Ron White talks at all, same with Hannibal Burress.
Tomorrow I’ll try another half dozen or so!

Fourthing (N-ing?) Eddie Izzard - he doesn’t have much of an accent. He does sound British, but he is pretty clear to me, and I’m a furriner. The bits and bobs you can find on Youtube are often from shows recorded in the US, and I’d expect he made an extra effort to be understood by his audience.

I forgot to mention I listened to a portion of his Dressed to Kill, and I did like at least that one. He did make me laugh.
I’m not saying none of the others made me laugh…but when I really “like” a standup I expect to be laughing approximately every 20 seconds or so, even just small laughs, and a good big laugh every minute or so. The comics I choose are the ones that do that for me. The others…I may chuckle occasionally but they’re not worth actually buying.
I’m getting a nice list though! When I get through them all I will purchase mp3s of them.
I like Amy Schumer mainly because she is a pretty, innocent face and then she starts talking all skanky and the juxtaposition is great.
**Loach** My SO loved Bill Burr too, so that was a real success.
