Nothing shows you’re secure in your position of authority and responsibility more than accepting when you have made a mistake, particularly when no harm is done in the process. ---

It’s so nice for everyone to come and fight for **Merijeek** , who either didn’t care or took this up privately via PMs. Was everyone afraid **Merijeek** could not handle him/herself? ---

All the posters benefit by determining if this was a mistake or if we, too, might get warned for making such a reference in CS in the future even though it was part of the movie/song, etc. being discussed. ---

As a matter of course maybe posters should consider that not everyone is going to be aware of every pop culture reference when posting a statement that on it’s face looks insulting. ---

What does it matter? It was a bogus warning and shouldn’t have been issued in the first place. It could happen to any one of us. I like to think we Dopers look out for the community. It certainly paid off in this case. I think so many posters coming to **Merijeek’s** defense benefited us all. ---

Not everyone has to be aware of it, just as long as a warning can be rescinded should it come to light that turned out to be the case. Which it did, and it was. But I agree there would be no reason to think the post wasn’t an insult without getting the reference and the original response was perfectly understandable. ---

The first warning I received, here, was in a thread [**twix** started](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=555891). Here’s my [post.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=12235337#post12235337) I got warned for that, the reason will be clear if you keep reading that thread. The mod response to that indicates to me that **Marley** ain’t bad, and neither is **twix**. I was a total asshole when I first came here. Even total assholes are redeemable, with good moderation. **Twix** and **Marley** are pretty good at their (volunteer, unpaid job). Read that thread, and what I had to say, and **then** tell them they suck… ---
