Well, **JC **had already weighed in that there was potential for debate and I agree with that. However wrongheaded a proposition may be, I think the best response is to demonstrate why it is so wrongheaded if possible, not by stifling discussion or by promoting derision.

And yet threads are routinely moved to the Pit after a very brief time in GD with only a handful of posts in them. Emphasis added. No problem labeling them “wrongheaded”. You might claim that this one didn’t qualify, but you are now claiming that none qualify which simply isn’t true.

Whether I believe an OP to be wrong or right, is not a criteria I use to determine if something should be moved. If a post is a rant, it goes to the pit. If it’s merely commentary on current events, MPSIMS may be a better fit.

Debate should have something to debate. Whether women think penises are ugly or not can be debated. Lots of stuff can be debated even though I personally think the question has only one right answer and all others are wrong. That’s what I mean by “wrongheaded”.
