It seems to me that Daniel Dingel is the energy charlatan of the 21st century.  
Looking to the 19th century, there was [John Keely](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_E._W._Keely) who according to the article:

Wow - maybe Daniel Dingel rediscovered the etheric force.

The 20th century had [Joseph Newman](http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a2_401.html). And that link goes to an article written by “The Master” himself. If you can’t believe Cecil then whom can you believe?  
Joseph Newman was rather good at promoting his “discovery” and was even a guest on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. (Then again, so was Tiny Tim, so that puts things in perspective). 😃
