If I can resist The Wizard of Oz I can resist this one. And Gene Wilder isn’t a favorite.
I thought that, other than the wholly superfluous Robert Bly Reclaiming Fatherhood plot, the new one did a pretty good job with Wonka’s character. He wasn’t quite as manic, but he was pretty great. The wording of the songs was better, too.
I just pretend that the Wonka’s Dad nonsense didn’t exist, and I’m happy with the new version.
(And I read the book both before and after seeing it, too!)

Really? In my favorite vacation spots, I see Czech and Polish chambermaids all the time, as well as Spanish and Portuguese. Very often they are college students “doing” a summer in the states. Not immigrants, but working tourists.

We are the musicmakers, and we are the dreamers of dreams!
Musicmakers, eh? That explains it. My friend was in a band named The Snozberries.
Does anyone else find it ironic that the first film, which focuses more on Charlie, is named Willy Wonka, and the second film, which focuses more on Wonka, is named Charlie?
Calling themselves “The Dickheads” probably wouldn’t have been a good idea.
Yeah, I noticed that right away.
