Was he (partially) of Aboriginee descent? That might explain it, perhaps.

Oops, sorry I didn’t catch the question sooner.

No, he was actually of German descent. This was like a heritage tattoo, though. Some kind of lion rampant, I think.

Age of Consent for tattoos in Victoria is 18 but you don’t need a professionally licenced person to indelibly mark your skin.
