I just gasped when I saw this thread. What a great choice! Then I saw that they have assigned you to four different forums (fori?), and that made me gasp all over again. Oh **Spice Weasel** , donā€™t let them work you to death. You know how they are. ---

Iā€™m offended by the jokes about moderation in this thread: [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=844272](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=844272) I donā€™t know why it is: Iā€™m generally a pretty easy going guy (and I thought the moderation was wrong: Iā€™m generally pretty tolerant about thread content). But for some reasons, what I take to be friendly (though off topic) jokes welcoming a new moderator in an unrelated thread just spin me off: I donā€™t like it and I donā€™t want to be around it. ---

It was my first mod note and itā€™s taking some adjustment to the new role, to get a sense of what flies and what doesnā€™t in different forums. I solicited immediate feedback from veteran mods after that note, and continue to do so. Itā€™s a lot harder than I would have guessed. Bottom line: I made a mistake. Iā€™ll probably make more, particularly in the beginning. Itā€™s this damned ā€œbeing humanā€ thing, keeps getting in the way of perfection.
