(AP) (NEW YORK) Rev. Al Sharpton threw expectant media a curveball Thursday by holding a news conference to announce that he would not announce whether or not he was running for mayor. “I’m not stating my intention tonight … I will not deal with that question. I’m more concerned with setting a tone for the race than whether I’m going to enter the race,” he said. Oh, lordy. I can’t imagine anything worse for NY or for race relations in general than to have this pontificating boob run for mayor. It’s bad enough he wants to “set a tone for the race.” ---

At least Sharpton is more colorful than some of our other mayoral candidates. Green? Ferrer? Gimme a break. It’s not for nothing that the Daily News reported that 69% of New Yorkers would prefer Bubba to run for mayor than any of these clowns. MR ---

You know as much as I enjoy and respect “Hairdo” as a punchline for late night monologues and SNL sketches, I must say a run for mayor of NY is BEYOND ill-advised. Where’s Jesse? ---

Betcha it causes a spike in the population of New Jersey and Connecticut. I can see it now, folks in Manhattan will do such a quick turnaround on the ‘living in Jersey’ concept that they’ll ahve to call in federal assistance for the epidemic of whiplash cases. ---

I don’t think he’ll run. If he won he would have to actually work and be held accountable. I don’t think that appeals to him. He has his dream job now of the being the backseat driver from hell. ---

Al Charlatan ? First mayor I can think of who’d get his wages garnisheed for his libel payments… I don’t live far enough away to escape the stampede. I voted for Rudy and moved out before he took office - my gift to you… He’s a clown, and would be afraid to win. His showboating would collapse if he had to work. ---
