Plot hole in A Few Good Men

in re: my last post, I do not insist that there was, in fact, a plot hole. Just that if there was, it’s the one in post 60, not in post 1.

I think what bfwolf means is that the film is presented that way. It is. Yes, it’s simplistic, but that’s par for the course for Hollywood movies. It’s presented that Dawson and Downey are charged with secretly conspiring to poison and kill Santiago and if the defense can prove that they were given orders to carry out a Code Red (which everyone somehow knows must be relatively harmless in nature), then the judge and viewing audience will all be happily convinced that Dawson and Downey somehow couldn’t have meant more harm than tying Santiago up to shave his head and the court proceedings can quickly come to a close. Realistic? No. Plot hole? No.

Lt. Kendrick told us that we had an informer in our group. That Private Santiago had gone outside the chain of command and reported to the NIS on a member of our platoon.

Weil, if that’s not a clue, I don’t know what is?

BTW Kaffe was in the Navy not the Army.

freakydeaky, welcome to the SDMB.

Please note that the thread you responded to is over a year old. The OP has not been back since then, and is unlikely to see your reply. We call these Zombie threads, and you are not really supposed to do it. You’ll know next time.

Having said that, isn’t everyone in the thread missing something obvious?

Colonel Jessup ordered the code red. It went wrong and the victim died. Then Jessup tried to cover his own ass, by lying. He tried to pin the blame on Dawson and Downey. But his story was full of holes, and fell to pieces under cross-examination. The OP’s list of plot holes, are actually holes in Jessup’s lies. They are, partly, the reason that Jessup was exposed. Some of them were cited as evidence against Jessup.

Please report the post and don’t Jr Mod…while we don’t want scores of people bumping up topics so old that they’re from 2001 or so, we’re not opposed to threads from earlier this year or last year being bumped as long as it’s not a regular thing…so again, don’t post this stuff to other members, it’s mistaken and you’re not a mod.

Come to think of it why DID Kendrick tell the platoon anything, and then tell them not to act on the information? Wouldn’t he have achieved the “desired” result by just not telling them?
