Onward to the Kuiper Belt!
Although I guess Pluto is a Kuiper Belt object, isn’t it?

Any chance it will get near Sedna?
Any reason it should? Pluto is far nearer to us than it is to Sedna, even if the three were lined up.
footnote: Pluto is presently in Capricorn (it shifts zodiacal signs about every 20 years) while Sedna is close to Taurus - almost on opposite sides of the solar system.
Oh my god… dwarfs!
[old-timer voice]When I was a boy…[/old-timer voice]
Hah! Funny you should mention that. A while ago, I had a dual monitor setup at work, but no particular need for the second monitor. So I put up a browser window with the webcam from the pitch drop experiment on it. I quickly had to replace that with pictures of kittens, because it drove me crazy. I was glancing over at it every five seconds. Before long, I was shouting at the screen. “Come on!!! Drop already!!!”
I don’t do patience very well.
Cool!
I heart you Pluto.
I’ve bookmarked the Pitch Drop web cam. I rather like the news banners that scoll along the bottom of the screen, as they actually have links to stories with more detail.
Wait, Morning Edition is a radio show, the best picture (which looks like Marvin’s helmet) is from a radio show?
I discover I still have the capacity to be amazed. We’re getting a look at details of a world that up til now might as well have been mythical.
I’m amazed at the quality of what I’ve seen so far. And the “heart shots” are going to be in the textbooks for a while I’m guessing. Neat little feature.
(Any bets on when the first alien encounter nut claims it was put there on purpose to let us know we’re loved?)
It clearly a clover shape if we were able to see it from the right perspective, and this is proof that aliens are Leprechauns.
Yes.
Heh!
Oh, I can see the bumper stickers now.
You have to work to make that look like a heart, though. It could also be an angel print . . . or a butt print. Hey, has Pluto been mooning us all these years?
I’ll be honest; I didn’t even think Pluto was a sphere. The blurry images I saw as a kid made me think it was just a rock at the edge of the solar system. These latest pictures are fascinating.
Does that mean the other dots spell out “Earthians are always after me lucky charms”?
And the crater at lower left is clearly Wormface’s base. Nuke 'em from orbit…
For some reason, I seem to be getting more amazed by some things as I’m getting older than I did when I was younger. I always used to take a lot of things for granted. Also, I’m just as amazed by what scientists are able to do as by the things that are being discovered. I guess it’s because that now that I’m a grown-up, I understand just how difficult life is. These guys sent a CAMERA to the OUTSKIRTS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM! And actually had it pass directly by a piece of rock that is basically like a pebble in the Pacific Ocean. How the fuck do you do something like that? I mean, I can’t even work my washing machine.
Even karen is big enough to round out. Looks like several hundred km of diameter is enough, and the ferryman is over a thousand. Now, if we could just figure out what the heck is up with Haumea.
