You are lucky then. Thing is, even some Irish or Irish-descended people can have dubious to bad taste. Lots of Irish-American acquaintances swear by Black 47. I saw them on a visit to N.Y. and . . . nah, it’s just not-super-talented Oirish Paddy-shtick and a bunch of drunk frat boys and wizened old rummies.
Hey I’ll defend Black ‘47, I don’t like all their songs but they have some that hold their own against Pogues’ best. For example, 40 Shades Of Blue retools the air of the Sally Gardens in an interesting way, works as a companion piece to the Pogues’ Thousands Are Sailing. Larry Kirwan’s voice takes some getting used to though.
They’re not very well known - one of those bands always *just *on the verge of making it big - and, yeah, I went to high school with some of these guys, but all that aside, I think The Tossers are pretty good, music wise, and within the Celtic Punk genre.
