I realize this makes me an epic douchebag, but when I got to the part where they said it was the thief who died, my first thought was, “Good.” ---

I thought the fact that it was apparently a neighbor made it kind of interesting. I wonder if the neighbor had gone joyriding on the bike before. I certainly wouldn’t have wished death on the guy, but c’mon, now! ---

Slight hijack: My sister’s husband was a fighter pilot in the Korean conflict and was in fact shot down. The newspaper story made it clear that he had bailed out and was not injured and had been rescued by some Canadian soldiers. My sister received numerous calls expressing grief for her husbands death. we didn’t receive the newspaper until later in the day; you might imagine her grief until we did. (We lived in a small town; everyone knew our name and knew she had married a pilot.) ---
