I’m “hot”, is stating, I’m wearing a bodycam, and it’s hot “recording”…

So let’s say there are no witnesses, no evidence of a scuffle, and my defense is, “He was running at me and I feared for my life.” Given the evidence at the scene, this is reasonably plausible whether he was running at me to hurt me or just walking towards me. Would I be likely to be convicted?
It depends on whether a jury believes you. If you’re a cop, they’ll almost certainly believe you. If you’re a young black man, you won’t have the same chance.
Yeah, we worked that out already up thread. Blame the alcohol.
“Three sources with knowledge of the incident said Sunday that two officers in one squad car, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver’s side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat pulled his gun and shot Damond through the driver’s side door, sources said. No weapon was found at the scene.”
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Apparently they were wearing body cameras, but they were not on.
I hope the guy who shot this woman is currently awaiting a hearing in jail, like anyone else.
Just kidding, that would make no sense. After all, it’s a cop. And the immense privilege and power these people possess means there should be less, not more oversight.
If that’s what the investigation reveals, the officer should be charged.
But keep in mind that we were also told right after the shooting of Michael Brown that he had his hands up, too…
At this point, I think we can be fairly confident at least that the woman was unarmed. The police are the ones telling us that information. They’re also the ones that (collectively) would have every imaginable motivation to publicize it if it turned out that she had a weapon. In the case of Michael Brown and “hands up”, that story came from Michael Brown’s friend.
Here is an update on this. The man that fired the fatal shot(s) is Mohamed Noor. He was hired in 2015 and is apparently some sort of Somali immigrant (the Mayor described him as “the newest Somali officer in the Minneapolis Police Department” in a Facebook post last year). He has a pending federal case for alleged violations of another woman’s rights in March.
I bet this guy gets some mistaken and unwanted attention over all of this.
ItemFix - Social Video Factory is the radio traffic (of the Damond shooting), not really much there though that sheds additional light on the circumstances.
