Apparently it went both ways (obligatory SNL clip): Tenement Museum - SNL - YouTube, but as someone upthread said it best the target of the jokes varied depending on one’s background but the punchline was the same.
Bigotry does not hinge on whether someone is offended.

My wife is Greek Cypriot and we’ve spent time in Greece, Cyprus, and Northern Cyprus. Trust me, I’ve heard plenty of jokes about Greeks, Cypriots, and Turks.
