I hope Dopers will contribute poems lamenting or celebrating present political situations. We’ll vote to pick the best one. If you want your submission to be anonymous, send it to me via PM and I will repost it here. I think this is the right forum; if not I hope the Mods move it appropriately. As thread-starter I am ineligible for any prize but will submit a few of my own samples to get us started. I hope someone uses one of mine as a starting point to compose one much better. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Do not accept these politics of hate Trump bluffs and farts and mocks but mostly lies. Rise up and fight before it is too late Children watching children locked behind a gate For Trump to show how much he can despise Do not accept these politics of hate Though Wall Street feasts while profits do inflate A righteous man, still steadfast, tries To rise and fight before it is too late The Christians worshipping God’s glory great Who strive to see the world with righteous eyes Do not accept these politics of hate Women often forced to fight above their weight By rapists, then told that guys will just be guys Rise up and fight before it is too late Gays and Blacks and those who care about their fate And mourn when Liberty’s great Statue cries Do not accept these politics of hate Soldiers risking lives to preserve the state While Trump’s men sell our Land to Russian spies Rise up and fight before it is too late Great land Enlightenment did once create Now weeps at what may mean its sad demise Do not accept these politics of hate Rise up and fight before it is too late ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ This sociopathic Trump is Devil’s seed; He bluffs and farts and mocks but mostly lies. Do not bow down to this false god of greed. A sexist who disgusts with word and deed, Filled with lusts and sins he can’t disguise: This sociopathic Trump is Devil’s seed. Let loose the vulture banks again to feed; No help for us, the rich just want their prize. Do not bow down to this false god of greed. Arrest, deport the souls we should have freed; Heart-broke the Lady Liberty just cries. This sociopathic Trump is Devil’s seed. Here’s a submission in the Bokonist style: Bird got to fly Orphan got to eat Trump got to squat and grunt and tweet tweet tweet. Bumping and/or asking Mods to move to _Cafe Society_. I stumbled on this old post when Searching for Trump’s “I’m one of the smartest people anywhere in the world it’s true!” speech. I’m so sad nobody took up the challenge. :o Yes, I know my villanelles were much too long, but I’d hoped somebody could fashion a few good stanzas from several bad ones! 😛
