Interesting quote: American intelligence officials have expressed alarm at the variety of highly classified material Mr. Snowden obtained, suggesting that his actions revealed a shocking breach in the fundamental principle that intelligence officers should have access only to the material they need to do their jobs. I think we have pretty good records of people openly leaking material to the press. Those who leak stuff to the Chinese or Russians are more likely to get away with it, I say. So these revelations may actually _enhance_ US security. After all, Snowden says he took pains to both filter the material (unlike Manning) and release it only to reporters who had national security experience (also unlike Manning and furthermore a claim that is verifiable). This event will enhance security, that is, if the NSA has any interest in putting proper procedures in place. ---
