If anybody in the Bush administration has any sense, Attorney General Gonzales will be out on his ass in the next week, if not sooner. So it’s a crapshoot. ---

But with the Dems controling the Confirmation Hearings wouldn’t it be interesting to have them suggest Patrick J. Fitzgerald. I don’t know if it can be done, however. Anyone wanna bet that the White House will only run prospective replacements past Senate Republicans? Its as if they are still in denial about last November’s election. My personal choice of an honorable Republican would be John Danforth. ---

I’d bet Fred Thompson’s out too, as he’s not beholden to Bush for anything. Bush’ll try to push another crony in there first, and act as if he’s being personally wronged when the confirmation is denied. ---

Might the new AG take a serious look at prosecuting Alberto, _et al_, for the various crimes for which they might be indicted? If yes, then my pick as his replacement would be Carol Lam, or David Iglesias, or Daniel Bogden, or Bud Cummins. ---

The Bush Admin [denies it is seeking a replacement for Gonzalez.](http://www.thestar.com/News/article/193932) So I guess that settles it. When the Bush Admin denies X, you can be fairly sure X is the truth. ---
