This is something that drives me nuts. There could be no one around for miiiiles and I’ll still excuse myself out of habit. I bring it up because my sister, who’s an opera singer with lungs and diaphragm of steel, makes these window-shattering burps and she never says “excuse me.” (It happens to bug me extra because I have sensitive ears). Is it so uncommon for people to say excuse me? I know if you’re on a date or in mixed company you’re more inclined to do so, but in general? ---

I always say “excuse me” after burping, and I will sometimes say it to the cats, just out of habit. My burps are sometimes of the loud, dramatic variety, and I’m usually completely unashamed about letting them go, but I always excuse myself. ---

I used to out of habit until (recently) I found out that it’ll get me laid. ---

I always excuse myself out of habit also, even though most of my burps are barely audible. ---

I do it in public, mostly, though I may apologize in a more private setting after a rafter rattler. ---

Depends, I’ll apologise when in public or formal company. But with friends I just shrug it off and they’ll try and rip a bigger one 😉 ---

yes, I do excuse myself. me and my boyfriend sometimes have a contests to see who can produce the most musical burps. Especially when we’re having Indian food (chilli masala…mmmmm), cos that’s the only time i drink beer. And beer is the best for belches. That, or coke. ---

Only if I suspect someone might have heard it, it’s not really ingrained in me. Sometimes if I am distracted I will say an audible " Thank-you " to the cash machine when I grab the money from the slot, so that must be ingrained. ---

If I burp in the middle of a kiss I’ll usually excuse myself. That or some dental work. ---

All right, who’s getting laid because they burp??? Seriously, 'cause it ain’t happening for me. I’ll excuse myself unless I’m alone. Why bother? Besides, my burps make me laugh. My aunt said “that’ll get you laid” to me in a mannor that expressed that when I belch its not very lady like, she didn’t really mean it would get me laid. But, it’s funny so I say it now. ---

Like some have said: I excuse myself even if i’m alone. If with a boyfriend sometimes we say it, sometimes not, because we find it funny. Yeah we make a contest out of it if we happen to be drinking Pepsi. In private. My mom loves a good burb…it makes her laugh… ---
