Even without food my belly is just full and tired of consuming liquid long before I ever get even tipsy. If I’m drinking mixed drinks quickly without eating I might get drunk but I didn’t even like doing that in college. ---

I’ll have a glass or two of wine on a near daily basis (good for the heart, you know), but I don’t get _drunk_ very often, maybe 1-3 times/year. It helps that I’m a pretty big guy (6’8", 220 lbs) so it takes at least 5-6 drinks before I start getting rambunctuous. ---

I LOVE a good beer, but can’t drink more than one or two before I feel unpleasantly full. Unless it’s light beer, which I don’t like anyway, so that’s a moot point. I enjoy the taste of many alcoholic drinks (mainly wine & spirits, I don’t like most mixers), and I enjoy the effects. I’m much more of a lightweight than I used to be, so I almost never do shots anymore, because I’ll end up on the floor. I get buzzed off a glass of wine, but it takes probably 3-4 before I’d consider myself drunk. ---

Yeah, I don’t like beer (eewwww) but the more tasty equivalents, such as hard cider or wine coolers… I can’t drink enough of them by volume to get a buzz, so what’s the point? My stomach just can’t hold that much liquid. ---

Very rarely do I drink, but when I do, I do it with the express purpose of getting drunk\*. Maybe 6-10 times per year. \*I do, however, drink wine for the sake of enjoying the wine, and not for the sake of getting drunk. I drink a bottle or two of wine per month. ---

For me there are varying degrees of being drunk, from a beer or glass of wine giving me just enough of a buzz to make me not want to drive, to not remembering how the hell I got home. I don’t do the latter any more, despite it apparently being the only way I can gather the attention of the female branch of our species (dammit but the women I’ve had when I’ve been too drunk to get it up :smack: ). I guess I just don’t go out to the same sort of places that I used to, places where I really needed to get drunk to feel like I could enter. Now, if I do go a bit further past buzzy to fuzzy, then it’s because I’m drinking sociably and haven’t really noticed the transition. Accident rather than design I suppose. ---

I get horrible hangovers, so I try to avoid having more than a couple drinks in a night. Seems like I forget about this and end up drunk about once a year, though. ---

Nope. I generally don’t do the bar thing much anymore. If I go out to dinner then I usually will not have more than one drink. At home, it depends on what/why/with who we are drinking. But I typically only drink to have that just-slightly relaxed and maybe a little tipsy feeling. I haven’t done the rest of it in many years. Just not much fun for me anymore. ---

I like that glow you get from the first one, but the longer you go, the less you glow and the more sloppy you get. At least, I do. I came by my distaste for sloppy drunks in high school. I was always the one cleaning up the vomit and driving people home who couldn’t walk. If you drink to the point where you can’t care for yourself, don’t do it around me. ---

I shoot for that in-between zone between buzzed and drunk. I get to the point where my dexterity is reduced but I can still think clearly. ---

To elaborate, like **Sigmagirl** , my family is full of alcoholics. And for me it is almost exclusively the mean, violent, law-breaking variety of alcoholics. My parents made the conscious decision early on that they would raise my siblings and I in a different environment than they both experienced, though. So when I went to college, not only had I never once tasted any alcohol, I had never once seen either of my parents drink. (I think I do have a very vague memory of my father with a beer at a wedding when I was very small.) Their rationale is regardless of whatever evidence there is of alcoholism being or not being hereditary, if you _never_ drink, you can’t become an alcoholic. I understand the idea and am so proud they chose to do this so that my siblings and I didn’t have to deal with some of the things they did. I don’t see any need to take it that far, so my husband and I do have a few drinks a couple of times a month. It may change once we have children, I don’t know. ---

I don’t like feeling noticeably different regarding alcohol. If I go out to a music venue I keep to 1 drink or less per hour and fill it in with NA drinks. I do like to feel relaxed but I vehemently hate anything close to the “bed spin” feeling. There’s nothing fun about it and I will eventually get a migraine. I think bars miss out on a good cash flow by not serving a “Starbucks” level of coffee drinks. It would be great to out with friends and have pizza/beer and then coffee and dessert. ---

I can drink a couple nights a week and get warm and fuzzy off a few bourbon and diet cokes or a bottle of wine. On Wednesday nights it’s ladies night at the country club so at least once a month I’ll sit on the porch up there and get tipsy enough to be funny but not out of control. On Halloween I got out of control puking drunk. I’ll only do that once or twice a year when I have all night babysitting secured through the next morning. Even then, though, the hangovers just aren’t worth it anymore. The last time I threw an “accidental drunk” a few weeks ago where I didn’t realize how much bourbon I had consumed until I stood up and it was too late I decided it was the last time. Around here it’s a drinking culture. When I said I was going to watch the Iron Bowl (important football game to those of you that don’t know) at an alcohol-free house my family looked at me as though I had told them I would be having my children’s legs amputated for fun. ---

Do I get drunk. Lord yes. Not falling-down drunk, but definitely slurry, dancing-on-tables, I-love-you-guys! drunk. I am an exceedingly happy drunk. Drinking is definitely a social activity for me, though. I may have the occasional yummy or relaxing drink at home alone, but I can’t imagine being \*drunk \*alone. What’s the fun in that? ---

It all depends on my mood, the situation, and the beverage thats being consumed. If its just a quiet night at home with 1 or 2 people over then I’ll drink enough to get a nice buzz going. If I’m going out usually I’m going out to party and will end up nice and drunk. I don’t get mean or start fights , Just get kinda loud. Or there are situations like last night when my friend showed up at about 12:30 with a handle of Jim Beam and informed me that not only were people on the way but some of them had eaten mushrooms. That was fun, we ended up turning my living room into a rave club for a few hours. ---
