> And it’s also not running screaming from your spouse in horror, it’s just different levels of privacy and comfort. There are also the sounds and odors that come along with someone using the bathroom, that yes, I do find kinda gross.

Exactly.

My wife and I agreed early on in our relationship that we each would be perfectly happy if we never saw the other one using the toilet. A quarter-century later, neither of us has felt a need to reassess that.

For the first three months we were married, we were in a house with only one bathroom; ever since, we’ve had at least two bathrooms. Now that we’ve got the Firebug, there are rare and brief moments when both bathrooms are occupied. It’s never been a long wait for one bathroom to free up. One of these days, we’ll finish the basement and install a bathroom down there, which will give us three bathrooms, and the only time we’d ever have to wait for a bathroom would be when we have guests.

> My fiancee and I have already had this discussion and have mutually, and quite happily, agreed that this will NEVER happen, ever. I am never going in there and taking a whiz or dropping the kids off at the pool while she is brushing her teeth or something, or vice versa. Never, never, never, never, never. God, how gross.

My husband and I said this when we first moved in together. But the only other bathroom in the house is in the basement, it’s in disrepair, and it’s two floors away from where the bedrooms are. Eventually, practicality won out. Peeing while the other was in the bathroom just doesn’t seem like a big deal at all anymore. (We draw the line at #2.) After we lived together for a few months, it became impossible to keep up the illusion that we weren’t just regular people with bodily functions and such.

It is amazing to me that when you think of sexual acts (even normal intercourse) that you do with your partner that peeing in front of them is all of the sudden eeewwwwwwwwww…

That’s really weird in an amusing way.

One of the many "never again"s that I had to put behind me when I decide to marry again was my previously-stated refusal ever to share a 1-bathroom home with anyone else. We normally give each other bathroom privacy, but occasionally she’ll be in the shower when an urgent deuce calls. And deuces are wild.

A semi-issue for me, not so much with her.

She’s very okee with doing both with the door open and being casual about it, and I rather would enjoy having a door closed. It’s not near as bad if she or I are just peeing, but once we get into number 2 territory no way.

She’s gotten better with closing the door, and we haven’t run into the situation (yet) when one of us is showering and the other needs to come in, but I doubt that’ll be much of a problem.

TL;DR: I picked i think it’s kinda gross but shes ok with it so what are ya gonna do?

I agree. But people can be funny when it comes to intimacy. Some things are A-okay but other things are way off limits. I think the more ‘permissive’ you are in one category the easier it is to justify being a little more neurotic in another.

hmmm… I usually like my space when I am on the toilet, but if I was in the shower or something, and my husband needed to use the bathroom also, no big deal.

When I am in the bathroom primping (doing my hair, make up, etc) and he comes in to use the bathroom I do not even take notice.

When I have been drinking (o.k. when I am drunk) all bets are off!! We will fight to see who gets to use the bathroom first (in a playful way).

In my current place we have 1 full and one 1/2 bath, so it is not really a problem.🙂

I think people who grew up with one bathroom, or with lots of siblings, tend to not think twice about such things. If you’ve gotta go, you go.

That being said, if there’s another bathroom available, I’ll use it.

My first husband would leave the door open all the time. I hated it. I don’t want to have that mental image in my head about someone I’m supposed to be lusting after!

So, 2nd hubby and I made a deal bathroom doors are shut. Except he showers with the door open and if I have to pee urgently I’ll tell him, ok don’t peek, I’m peeing, and do it real quick. I can count those times on one hand in 14 years.

Sitting on the toilet, for either sex, is just unattractive. I don’t get why anyone would want to be seen like that.

My best childhood’s friends family would all go with the doors open with me there, even her father. I’d walk down the hall and there would be her dad reading a magazine on the John! I got used to it but it’s definitely odd. My friend was embarrassed by it, but she did it too. They were from eastern Europe so I don’t know if that’s a cultural thing, or just them. And, I was like family to them too. Still…

Pee maybe, poop never have done. That’s just…no. If I really gotta pee and partner is in the shower, I will. Otherwise I close the door.

My first husband was very relaxed about pooping with the door open or with me present, although I gave him space because I find it just…unattractive. Actually he’d sit and read the paper on the pot every morning (I suppose that’s a habit that is dying out now.)

Our bathroom is the same. I in no way count that as being in the same room. You are in a separate room with a closed door in between. I voted never gonna happen.

Nope. 6 in a house and 1 bathroom. Didn’t happen then, not happening now.

I’m almost exclusively a morning dumper, so it’s easy for me to go down to the basement terlit after breakfast. It would have to be an emergency for me to pinch a loaf when my wife is in the bathroom. Peeing we have no problem with.
