The problem is really not one of “geeky” vs “beautiful airhead”, which is an ignorant distinction to begin with. The problem with many “geeky” girls is that so many tend to think that if they can’t be a super model then there is no reason to try to make themselves “prettier”. I have seen many girls that could be very pretty or at the very least a whole lot less “plain” with just a small amount of makeup and a little care about their wardrobe. Some go so far as to even “dress down” purposely as if thinking that they will not submit to the norms of society since they feel they can’t compete anyway with those norms. Even the prettiest women do not get the attention by rolling out of bed putting on form hiding clothes, refusing to style their hair, or downplaying their sexuality at ever chance. If you want to be asked on a date, you at least have to act like you know the point of dating and care enough to present yourself in the most attractive manner possible. ---

He thinks I’m hot so I go out of my way to look good for him, and voila…I found out that I’m a rather attractive woman. **Andie** or **Jen**? Can’t choose Joey? That’s cruel. Andie to look at, but she’s such a psycho control-freak that I’d be driven to Jen. But i couldn’t sleep with her. Ugh. **Daria** or **Quinn** Easy. I’d be friends with Daria but she’d be too scary to date. For that, there’s Quinn, who is a nice escape from cynicism and _might_ even be fun when you get to know her. And the OP? I’d go the dumb blonde. Typical geek look is just not for me, and given no information on any other characteristics, I’d have to assume they were equal in every way. Unintelligence is a turn off more than intelligence is a turn on, so I’d put up with the blondes stupider moments. Now if we were talking an emo/indie chick, I might have a slightly harder time choosing. While I wouldn’t have to put up with an insufferable interest in science or computers, I don’t want a girl with similar taste in music as mine - one of us would start getting snobbish, I’m sure. Particularly when I felt like listening to Destiny’s Child and all she wants is Neutral Milk Hotel. I’m beginning to realise why I’m single. ---

rather than geek chick or geek boy, my friends and i like to refer to our ideal as ‘goober chic.’ you gotta have some goober and some chic in order to qualify. many people are too goober, not enough chic or too chic and not enough goober. but i think that people that have accepted and embraced their inner geeks are inherently chic. ---

**elsa32** ’s got it right. I’m not saying this just because I’m her friend, but because this is a theory worked out over years of experimentation. The only thing she left out is that a person who rejects their inner geek at every turn, tries constantly to be cool, is automatically the biggest goober of all time. So, you know, if you have social skills but geek out over Lord of the Rings (or power tools, or Sumerian love poetry…), you’re my kind of guy. I hate to question the veracity of the many of you who claim to want geeks over “pretty girl” girls, but come on. Where were all of you when I was in high school? Have times changed that much? (I’m 34) My high school was filled with jocky boys who only wanted prom queen types, and metal head boys who only wanted metal head girls with big hair and lots of black mascara. There were probably 3 or 4 geeky guys in my class of over 300, and they basically were too quiet or shy to even approach girls. I ended up practically chasing one of them for an entire year until he would go out with me (which then lasted over 5 years). It’s all well and good to choose Baily over Jennifer (but then, I would hardly call Baily average looking!!). But when it comes down to it, I don’t know many young men who, given the choice, would choose the geek over the prom queen. I’d like to think that things change over time, but I know a few single men in their 30’s who are still searching for hotties, and are terribly lonely because of it. By the way, did anyone watch _Ed_ this week? The geek girl tried to go hottie, and ended up preferring geekdom. It was a pretty good episode. -M- ---

Given that the two are quite similar in terms of character, I’d prefer a geeky woman over an airhead (real airheads, not smart ones who play dumb to be on the same level with jocks), I’ll choose a geeky one any time of the day. To put it simply, intelligence is required. Happily, my SO is intelligent.
