My sister was almost a rape victim - luckily, Mom came home early that day. I have no idea why, but she didn’t want to press charges. I’ve been burglarized and shot with a BB gun (several years apart). I also, like an idiot, once stepped in to an attempted mugging of my friend as we were waiting at a bus stop - it was Spain, and at the time the odds of the perpetrator having a firearm were really low, plus it was a Saturday evening and there were a lot of people around, so I wasn’t too worried. That same semester, I was also nearly date-raped, but managed to extricate myself without too much damage, just residual ooginess (literal and figurative) at having experienced far more of my date than I had intended. ---
