Poll: How many of you carry a concealed weapon?

Some of us have a very specific mistrust of the world, and with good reason.

I don’t carry on the job.

Illegal where I live.

If I lived in a place with legalized firearms I might consider owning something like a rifle, but I wouldn’t carry anything around with me.

And If I did own such things I’d certainly keep them well secured from small people in my house.

What he said.

You do live in a place with legalised firearms.

CCW, got in Jan 2006 when I was working Armored. Used mainly for that job and a couple of other armed security jobs I had after that.

Never carry otherwise. Don’t see the need. Except the option of having a loaded weapon in the car on those now infrequent long distance trips to remote areas.

Expires in Jan 2011. Dunno if I’ll renew.

Do I?

Yep. As with the UK, you’re allowed things like shotguns and rifles provided you get the correct firearms certificate. Unlike the UK (at least AFAIK), you’re also allowed handguns with a firearms certificate.

My whole body is a lethal weapon!

OK, not me. I don’t even own a gun.

I did at one point, but no longer do so.

I used to work nights in a very rough part of town (Dallas). After I left that job for greener pastures, I stopped carrying (major PITA) and allowed my license to expire.

If my circumstances changed for the worse, job/work location-wise, I would again seriously consider renewing my license.

I don’t, but I do have a pistol just don’t concealled carry it. My son does have a CCP and carries his pistol.

In addition we have several rifles of small caliber and 3 or 4 scoped high powered rifles. This is simply normal for my area. Currently deer, cougar, bear and duck hunting seasons are open and most of the trucks you would see on the roads are carrying weapons.

I will revise and extend my remarks: What I said above applies, I suppose, to those who despite having a concealed carry permit are unable to keep the fact that they’re armed (and the unspoken corollary: that you are not) itself concealed.

If you are able to clandestinely carry and resist the urge for the Big Reveal–whether it’s brandishing the firearm, or pulling your jacket back to show your holstered piece, or giddily hinting that you have a Glock on your person–then my above remarks wouldn’t apply. Or at any rate, I wouldn’t surmise the person is armed, and accordingly, my negative assessment would be withheld.

The public in the UK are not allowed any guns for home defence.
As far as I know, only specific cases (like farmers who wish to shoot vermin on their farms) are allowed rifles or shotguns.

Maybe deleting them would have been more helpful – the OP was as clear as he could be that this was not intended to be the n-millionth gun debate, and posted in a non-GD forum. But you couldn’t help but reveal your moral superiority.

Thing is, we’re not interested.

I don’t now. I did when I operated in an environment where the reasonable man was armed. And I would again if my environment changed appropriately.

No. I like target shooting OK, but I have no desire to own any guns, no interest in spending time on maintenance, and no reason to feel threatened without one. Also, I live in San Francisco, where private citizens with CC permits can be counted on one hand (The entire 9-county Bay Area is generally inhospitable to CC, but SF is one of the toughest towns in the US in that respect).

In answer to the OP: no permit as of the moment.

Rilly? Then what do you think Airman Doors started the thread for?

He wanted to know what people think. Not what people who agree with him only think. But what people think. And that’s what I gave him.

I’m perfectly willing to abide by his request not to turn this into a debate. And I’ll add that it wasn’t me who started challenging other people’s responses in this thread.

I’ll grant you that when I re-read his OP he left the door open to explanations of your reasons for carrying/not. I guess what bothered me was the judgmental/amateur psychology (“low self-esteem”) tone of it, more . . . .

I guess you didn’t yet get to the part, during your re-reading of the OP, where Airman said this:

Thanks in advance, chief.

Don’t carry.
Don’t have a license to carry.
Don’t own a gun.

Plan to someday, but I’m not in a huge hurry.
