Are there any other restaurant people here? I cook something on Tuesdays because a friend comes over and watches American Idol, so I will always try new recipes then. Usually on Sundays my boyfriend will grill a filet for himself, and if we are lucky we get king crab legs. Other than that, it’s all restaurant food, two times a day, sometimes three if I feel like having a taco. It’s weird, both of us like cooking, we just don’t do it. Once in awhile I will just eat a sandwich for dinner. Our bills are pretty cheap, so the extra money all goes to food, and just because you eat restaurant food all the time doesn’t mean you will get fat. I’m thin, but this is probably because we don’t eat fried chicken and stuff, a lot of my out to eat food is sushi. Lots of sushi.
I think this is mainly because I just don’t want to cook and then clean once a get home from a busy day at work, and on Sundays I don’t want to sit there making stuff for the week, Sundays are for brunch, bike rides, and drinks with friends in the afternoon! I need a cook.
I haven’t eaten in a restaurant for five or six years. Haven’t even had a frozen pizza in several years or more, they’re too easy to make with the breadmaker mixing and rising my dough.
I’m not above pulling through a drive through to pick up a burger if I’m on the road, but that’s about it.
Guess I’d have to say 99.9% unless I can’t count the granola I buy in bulk, but doesn’t take any cooking. Just add milk, fruit or yogurt. Used to make my own granola until I figured out I wasn’t saving anything by doing so.
I do a min. 2 course meal daily for dinner. Often 3 or 4 course. I’m pretty handy with the lunch and breakfast too. Plus, I do the dishes and laundry. Of course, fleet maintainance (15+ vehicles), fabrication, engineering and welding, lawn and garden care are all thrown in. I’ve even done windows, when they need it.
And I have a huge cock. All I ask is you, or you have someone else clean the bathrooms.
I’ll tell you another little cheapskate secret: When you go shopping, only buy stuff from the outer ring of the grocery store. That’s where the staples are, with a few exceptions, such as rice, dried beans and pasta. Don’t go into the aisles.
Do I do that myself? No, my kids like cranberry juice and boxed cereal. But, I’m serious, it does make a difference.
I cook everyday. One, because it’s cheaper, and two, because it’s healthier.
So, for example, a couple nights ago, I baked a pizza at home. I bought a whole wheat crust (pre-made), low-sodium pasta sauce, low fat mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni (which cuts the fat of regular pepperoni by about 2/3).
I only cook once a week or two, unless you count my lunchtime smoothies.
It’s a shame, because I love cooking. But I live in China and the restaurants and street food are pretty good and it usually ends up being cheaper than cooking for myself. My kitchen is tiny, the fresh market is further away than the restaurants, and half the things I consider staples aren’t available anyway. In the end, it makes more sense just to pop into a restaurant.
I cook virtually every day. I might get takeaway for lunch or dinner maybe once a fortnight, and that’s usually when I’m at someone else’s house anyway.
I’d say about 6 - 7 times per week. Breakfast is always cold, and I rely on leftovers or simple meals like pita & hummus, or cheese & crackers & cold cuts, for dinners at work.
On the other hand, I very rarely eat out anymore, so that helps.
I cook so much food for myself it comes across as a bit crazy, but since I literally cannot eat out at most places I have to make food for essentially every single meal I eat. (breakfast is usually rice milk and one of the very very few cereals I can eat)
We eat at home about 85-90% of the time. Last night, I cooked (boneless chicken breasts, mushrooms, onions in a white wine/mushroom cream sauce over angelhair pasta with a side of broccoli, then later we at nearly half the loaf of Irish Soda Bread I’d baked shortly before dinner because I wanted to try making Irish Soda Bread). Although I try to cook enough that Hallboy and I can have leftovers for lunch the following day (like today), if I don’t have leftovers, or forget to bring them, then I’m most likely to eat out lunch the following day.
Winter and fall I’m most likely to cook (or bake), but during the summer all bets are off. Then I’m most likely to have Hallboy throw something on the grill and eat whatever takes the least amount of heat to cook (salad or sliced tomatoes with motzerella).
My wife loves to cook. So do I, but she’s better at it, so I’m relegated to doing prep work for her or cooking on the grill. We (usually she) cook every day. We eat out no more than two times a month, usually because we’re out for some other reason and it seems convenient. Restaurant food is rarely as good as what we eat at home.
Since I love cooking, and my family loves food, I’d say I cook 90+% of our meals. I cook breakfast every weekday morning (M - F) and if the kids ask me to on the weekends – usually they sleep later and just wait for lunch. I make their lunches everyday – of course during the week, that might not count as “cooking” since it only involves putting sandwiches together and measuring out portions of cookies, chips and nuts (yes, I buy bulk and actually measure individual servings for them) – my husband and I either have leftovers or frozen junk for our lunches during the week. As for dinners, we eat out on average once a week (sometimes more), the other times I cook. I don’t make boxed/frozen stuff as it takes just as little time to prepare it from scratch most of the time – and it tastes better!
We usually order out every Friday, and sometimes on Sunday. The rest of the week, dinner is cooked at home. He loves restaurants and he does all the cooking so I almost never argue when he wants to go out but truth be told I think his cooking is way better than any restaurant. It’s made with love, after all.
Lunches usually consist of leftovers or some prepackaged food. Breakfast - I make at home, I don’t think he eats breakfast.
It’s probably easier to tell you when I don’t cook. That would be shopping day and the 2-3 times a month I have to go into work. Every morning I make a fresh pot of Steel cut Oats with different add-ins. I cook Sunday through Thursday, one my sons cook Friday and Saturday. Occasionally my wife will get an inspiration and cook a dish I typically don’t do like beans and hamhocks or something.
we cook nearly every meal we eat. My husband makes breakfast 6 days out of the week and this means oatmeal on the weekdays and pancakes on Saturday. Lunch is usually leftovers or sandwiches. Dinner is made as much from scratch as possible (because it’s cheaper that way) all but maybe 2-3 days out of the month. We eat out maybe twice a month on date nights.
