Some people are loud drunks (my brother), some are mean drunks (my sister), and some are sleepy drunks (me). But in my family, anything said after the second bottle is opened is not worth reporting. If you repeat it the nex day we will all say it was the alcohol talking. ---

I donā€™t drink wine, but I certainly agree with the idea that alcohol lowers inhibitions and enables honesty (often blunt honesty, at that). šŸ™‚ ---

I am one who becomes more honest (and opinionated ) while imbibng. I also get achingly curious. Why is that man sitting alone at the bar? Heā€™s obviously not here to dance, heā€™s not hitting on women or talking to anyone or even drinking a lot. I must ask him about this. Do you think that woman knows she needs a better bra? 75% of women wear the wrong bra size. Platex has fitting clinics and thereā€™s one at the mall next week. Letā€™s go tell her. Cyn, who has never been belted by a perfect stranger, but itā€™s really just a matter of time. ---

The last time I got drunk (which was aboutā€¦ 7 years ago, I think) ā€œIn Vino Veritasā€ was in full effectā€¦ Much to my dismay. No one could look each other in the eye for a little while afterwards. And then I passed out into the bathtub. Havenā€™t got drunk since. ---

When weā€™re drunk we say the things we usually only think about. When Iā€™m drunk I tend to be more honest with myself about a lot of things, which also tends to be fairly painful for me. ---

There is a Finnish saying, let me paraphrase: ā€œThe one who never drinks is hiding somethingā€. Honestly, that says more about the Finnish than it does about alcohol. Alcohol hides your social fears, but it also exaggerates your emotions. So yes, In vino veritas, but the morning after, the truth will have changed. :rolleyes: Iā€™m a non-drinker, by the way. Iā€™ve had too many drunks make fun of my hair, I donā€™t wanna go there. Respect to hair! ---

I believe it. I donā€™t think alcohol so much changes people as it breaks down their shells and magnifies them. A drunk will probably do something he wouldnā€™t (normally or even ever), but he wonā€™t do something thatā€™s contrary to his nature, and if it seems that way, itā€™s probably because heā€™s normally better about keeping his nature hidden. What comes out might not be literal truth, but itā€™s general truth, if that makes sense.
