Heh, I was raised Catholic (now, atheist), but I never heard anybody talking about these obscure theological points, especially not in regard to either children or pets. The fact that there are theologians who talk and write about theses subjects is so far out of the norm of ordinary Catholics that I’d wager 90% would not have the slightest idea what you’re talking about. Most would probably recognize the name Thomas Aquinas, but that’d be about it.
