Mine is Jane (born in the early '80s), after my grandmother’s middle name.
Mine is Carol, which was my Grandmother’s middle name also.
My middle name is Lynn. I have three sisters, two of whom have the middle name of Marie. The remaining sister has Ann. Furthermore, my mother’s middle name is Marie and her sister’s name is Ann. That’s all the middle names I know in my family.
Lately, though, it seems like everybody gives their baby girl the middle name of Rose. I hope it doesn’t become too cliched, because I find it the right balance of pretty and simple that you want in a middle name.
It’s an age thing. Middle names go through spurts of popularity just like first names do, and have the same sort of regional variability. If you grew up when and where I did, you’d wonder why so many of the women you know have the middle names of Renee, Catherine, or Denise.
My middle name, btw, is Lea. Pronounced lee, not lee-uh.
My sister (born 1977) and I (1974) have middle names other than Ann/Marie/Lynn. I’d say about 75% of my female friends of my age group have one of those middle names, though, with nearly all of those being Marie/Mary or Lynn.
No one in my family had those middle names, but a friend and her sisters did – Marie, Ann, Lynn, and a Lee and a Jean (big family), and lots of girls in my class were Ann – also Sue and Lou.
Mine is Rae, after an uncle who died in a semi accident. Family story was that he put the rig in a ditch to avoid hitting a car.
I vowed that I would not use any of those names for my child, had he ended up being a girl. I can’t stand the commonality of all those names. My own mother was kind enough to give me the middle name Gayle, which I quite like, and I appreciate that it isn’t terribly common. I also really like that she spelled it Gayle instead of Gail.
My middle name is Madonna. I was born in 1980, in the US.
However, one of my sisters has Marie as a middle name. My boyfriend’s sister has Marie. His sister-in-law has Marie. HER daughter has Marie.
It’s my dad’s first name.
I went to Catholic school for nine years and sometimes I thought I was the only girl in the school who didn’t have some variation of Anne, Mary, Lynn or Elizabeth as a middle name.
I can’t tell you my middle name, however, as it must remain a secret as a matter of national security
My middle name is Marie and so is my mom’s.
Mine begins with an H… totally uncommon, but not unheard of.
Mine’s my mother’s last name. It seemed perfectly natural to me growing up, but somewhere around the seventh grade I started getting lots of questions about it at school. I guess someone must have seen it on the attendance list or something, because all of a sudden all my friends started asking me what my middle name was; they seemed to have a hard time understanding that it was even possible for a girl to have a middle name that wasn’t Marie/Ann/Lynne/Elizabeth. They thought it was cool once I explained, though; little twelve-year-old me liked that very much.
My full middle name is ‘B’. It’s not clear to me whether legally, it’s ‘B.’ or ‘B’ without a period, as in Harry S Truman.
My Hebrew middle name (used in religious contexts) is Bayla. Or Beila, or however you want to spell it - I don’t need to have an English spelling at all, since it doesn’t come up.
Louise - it was my grandmother’s name.
Maria. But not cause I was born in the US (I was) but cause my mama’s Latina.
My wife’s middle name is “Michelle”, named after the Beatles song.
Her first name is “Laura”, named after the Gene Tierney movie.
Elizabeth Rose here… I didn’t know any others with my middle name, but couldn’t tell you how many Leah, Lee, Lea, Leeanne, Leighanne, Leigh, etc middle names there are around here. And of course the requisite Anne/Marie/Lynn.
My mom’s middle name is Delacour (old family name). My sister’s is Allison.
Mine is Olga. It’s my mom’s name.
Even funnier: mine is also Renae, but is misspelled. Ironically, I turned out to be an editor. With a misspelled name. :smack:
