Poll: Las Vegas: Like It, Love it, Hate It?

Fun in small doses. I don’t usually like to gamble, but I don’t mind spending a day or two and seeing the spectacles or playing with the attractions.

Still want to catch Penn & Teller at the Rio, though.

We freaking love Las Vegas! We got married there, have friends there, love to gamble, love to eat, and the shows are right down our alley: tacky to stunning. The wife and I drive the 3.5 hours to Vegas at least 4 times a year. It has become our New Year’s Eve place of choice, just for the people-watching and general craziness.

I love Disneyland.

I love Los Angeles.

I find Las Vegas profoundly depressing.

The first 2 or 3 times I went, I loved it. I saw lots of different shows, checked out all of the hotels, rode most of the rides, ate at a bunch of interesting places, did some moderate “gaming” as they call it.

Now I’m getting sick of Vegas, having been there 5 times in the past 6 years. After a while you run out of things to do during the daytime. The walking and huge distances really drive me nuts. Even the monorail is worthless, because you have to walk miles to get to it, as it runs way in the back behind the hotels. I’ve had it with the people handing out stripper trading cards too… they’re always in your face, even when you’re walking with a woman.

I’ll probably still go back, since my in-laws have 2 timeshares there. Next time it’ll just be a relaxing vacation though. Hang out in the hotel during the day, then dinner and a show at night. There’s still plenty of shows I haven’t seen yet.

The monorail is a joke! Did they buy that from Lyle Langley? (I’ve sold monorails to Ogdenville, North Haverbrook AND Las Vegas!!) I think it’s been out of service more than it’s been running. Some of the stations are laid-out really well (the MGM nearly reconfigured its whole shopping/dining area to make it easily accessible) and it stops right out front at the Hilton, but the weird shared one at Harrahs/Imperial Palace is a disaster. I think the smaller mid-strip casinos were hoping this would make their places more accessable, but I fear it’ll just make it easier for people to zip right past them.
