Poll: Should Zombie Calling Be Banned, Tolerated, or Encouraged?

I opined against zombie references in the other thread, but don’t really see any answers I like here.

I think zombie references can be off-putting to newcomers. I found them off-putting as a newcomer, especially when it was just a zombie joke with no context. But I don’t think they should be banned. And I found it more off-putting that what seemed like perfectly good and interesting threads got closed because some folks had already commented in them previously.

Anyhow, I’d encourage folks who want to be welcoming to affirmatively tell newcomers that the thread was started x years ago, and some of the posters may not come back to answer you. If you want to also throw in a zombie joke, have at it. Just don’t make zombie jokes INSTEAD of being welcoming to newcomers.

Karen, where have you been the past, I dunno, fifteen years(?) since you posted regularly? I always enjoyed your Staff Reports.

I went Option #4 but anything after the first choice is more than fine by me.

How about: zombie jokes are stale, not funny, and people should stop making them because they’re stupid, but banning them is overkill?

Maybe it’s just the Libertarian in me showing, but I really don’t think we need more rules dictating specific content that is or is not allowed. This seems to me to be a solution in search of a problem.

I suspect you’d prefer that to me removing all doubt.

Yeah, sorry about that. After all I went through to develop good options, the software made me change them at the last minute. It turns out there is a 100 character limit on poll options, but it only tells you that after you have typed them all in and hit [Submit].

I did the best I could on the fly.

You didn’t really leave any options for “I don’t like them, but don’t think they should be banned”.
