Lots when I was a younger thing…I think I spent the whole year of 1978 either stoned or rolling a joint to _get_ stoned. Ahhh, good times…well, the bits I can remember anyway. 😃 Nowadays pot is just too damned potent for my delicate sensibilities. The very few times I have indulged in recent years, I’ve been on my arse with one or two tokes. Not so good times. 😛 HIJACK ALERT!! Hey, **LouisB** , your post brought back a memory of a book I used to own when I got my first VW. Were you involved in the production of _“The Idiots Guide to Volkswagen Repairs”_ (by John Muir) by any chance??? One of the funniest (and most helpful) books I have ever read in my life btw. ---

I was in college early to mid 70’s. It was what we did. Now, I wouldn’t touch the stuff. I have friends who smoke and I can’t stand to be around when they do. The smell gives me headaches. I’m such a geezer anymore. Plus, we get random drug tested at work, so I never know when I’ll get to go pee in a little cup. ---

Still consider myself a pot smoker, but I don’t smoke nearly the amount other people do (and never did). I’m a quarterly, two-toke kinda gal. I prefer shitty pot to good pot because I’m extremely susceptible to the high. A joint lasts me six months. I hate the feeling of being Too Stoned (though I know many people who don’t believe there IS such a thing). I’m fully behind legalization and have smoked it with my elderly, ex-corporate insurance VP father many times. Just last month, as a matter of fact. ---

Another person who went to college in the early '70s – of course I did, often, for years. I’m truly surprised at the number of people saying no – kids today! ---

(slight hijack) Have you ever actually been tested? I know many people who want to smoke and don’t because of the random thing, but I don’t actually know anyone who’s been asked to make a deposit. Just curious. (I don’t think I smoke enough for it to even show up the next day!) ---

My guess is that many current smokers won’t reply to this thread for obvious reasons, therefore it will be skewed towards “no”. ---

Through most of high school (St. Francis Prep). I quit because I got paranoid when smoking. ---

Not once. I tried smoking a regular cigarette and found it so foul that I had no desire to try a joint. When I was in college, in the mid-80s, pot was seen as sort of passé among the crowd I hung out with. We mostly drank like fish, and the people who were into more than that did coke. ---

Y’know, this is the most interesting _poll_ I have seen on The Dope since forever. I was sure that each of the posts would be a simple ‘Yep’ rather than the many who claim that, not only have they never smoked a joint, but at least one who hasn’t ever SEEN dope in the (foliar) flesh. I am amazed. 😛 ---

Well, I’m 19 and I’ve never smoked pot, nor do I ever intend to. In fact, I only _smelled_ pot for the first time last month. At a Coldplay concert, there was a vile odor in my section. “What’s that?” I asked my companions. “It’s pot, you moron.” Oh. The again, I’ve never smoked a cigarette, done any drugs (sauf prescriptions), and I’ve had exactly half of one beer in my life.\* It’s mostly for health concerns. I want to live to be 90 so that I can be the crotchety old man telling the kids with their drug du jour, “That’ll kill you, sonny.” But beyond that, I can’t stand the idea of not being in complete control of my mind. The prospect frightens me to no end. The prospect that I might enjoy it is even more terrifying. - funny story, that: A dozen kids from my high school went to Hong Kong last year, and I was the oldest by far. And I discovered that the drinking age was 18, so I decided to buy a beer just to spite everyone else. The only brand I recognized was Heineken, so that’s what I got. And I walked over to the rest of the group, raised my bottle triumphantly, and started to chug. And immediately spewed German beer all over myself. It was disgusting! But I gamely drank the rest of th bottle. And that’s the story of the only alcohol **Mayo** plans to ever drink. ---

(bolding mine) Just out of curiosity, why the disbelief? I’m sure there are a variety of reasons for why people may not have ever tried pot, and I don’t think I’d be too surprised at any of them. These days, I suspect the desire of some to live healthy lifestyles (watching what they eat, exercising routinely) also doesn’t leave a lot of room for drinking, smoking, snorting, etc. ---

Yup. Not in decades, though. This would have been interesting if the responders also included their age and nationality. I’m in my late 40’s and agree that a majority of us children of the 60’s and 70’s tried pot. But from the 80’s on, I’m not so sure. ---

30 years old, and no. And I do regret it, I wish I had at least tried once in college. I do remember in 7th grade some girl passing around a small bag of loose leaves to eat? chew? Right in the class, and the teacher never even noticed. I said no. I mean I was 12! ---

I was all day, everyday smoker, up until two weeks ago, since about 2002. Cravings are still high, no pun intended. I felt I needed to quit because I was getting depressed a bit with it. I don’t blame the pot for the depression, but I don’t think it help while on it. I still feel down sometimes, but not as much since I quit. I’m sure I’ll crack if I come around the stuff again… but for now, I’m pretty much ignoring all calls that might be related to the stuff. We’ll see how it goes.
