Poll: What’s your nationality/ ethnicity?

Polish, Polish, Polish. With a little bit of Polish thrown in. Strangely enough, raised in Poland.

What’s your nationality/ ethnicity?

I answer Mojave to both.

Too bad I can’t have dual citizenship! I do carry a US passport, though.

Born in Vancouver, Canada.

Mother is English, father Hungarian.

Nationalities:

Canadian (by birth)
British (from my mother)
Australian (through lifetime residence)

Yes, i have three passports.

Born in Auckland, New Zealand.

Nationality: New Zealander (second generation).

Ethnicity: English-Scots-Irish, with a smidgen of Spanish, according to trad.

Dual nationality: British/Irish (Northern Irish, and just got my brand new Irish passport!)

Ethnicity: Scottish, Irish, French, German, North African Sephardic jewish, Eastern Russian Ashkenazi jewish, Portugese.

My father is Northern Irish Protestant (Scots/Irish)
My mother is half French Hugenot/Irish/German/Portugese and half Sephardic/Ashkenazi.

Little bit of almost everything.

Howdy, cousin!

My dad’s parents and my mother’s grandparents were all born in Poland and came to the US in the early 1900s. My parents grew up in bilingual households. We may well still have family in Poland, but after my paternal grandmother died, I don’t believe anyone stayed in touch. I’m not even certain what area of Poland they originated, but I think I remember being told one side of the family was farmers and the other side was miners.

I spent my formative years in Baltimore, but I was born in San Diego - Dad was in the Marines at the time stationed at MCRD.

Nationality: Danish
Etnicity: Scandinavian.
Mother: Swedish
Father: Faeroe Island. As far back as anyone could care to count. Supposedly most Icelanders and Faeroes Islanders are able to trace their family back to the original settlers from Norway at the beginning of last millennium. (Well it’s not that hard. Small island. That far back. Everybody is family) One of my brothers and a sister both have red hair, apparently the original settlers had a habit of stopping by Ireland to pick up some slaves. So I recon there’s some Irish in there somewhere.

I had to go shack up with a Spanish senorita, and now my daughters have more hair on their back and arms than I have. (But strangely her family also have blue eyes, her father says it’s from the Vandals and Goths…)

Mutt.

Seriously. My number of ethnicities increases at 2^n for an appreciable number of generations back.

[straight face]Gosh, you don’t look it[/heheheee]

You are the most Polish looking American I’ve ever met, with your facial structure and your fair colouring. I just assumed you were of Polish descent. Gosh, I’m smrt!

Virginian, born and bred
Mother’s family came here from Scotland in late 1600s
Father’s family migrated from Germany, via Pennsylvania (I think), about the same time.

I’m first generation American, born in West Virgina. I’m the only native-born American in the family, as my two older sisters were born in Canada. My parents were born and raised in Australia. Their ancestors were English, Irish, and Scottish.

English (not British - there’s a significant difference).

White anglo saxon type. Can’t dance, can form orderly queues.

Irish.

I’m told there’s a bit of Italian in the family from way back but other than that, Irish.

Wow - I’m amazed some of you don’t have problems with your DNA falling apart under the stress!

Half English half Welsh, that makes me… English

50% Celt* + 50% Anglo Saxon, probably.

We’re a pretty stable lot over here, it’s been a while since we were last invaded.

*hence the *small[/] bit of the monicker

Nationality: American, born in Little Rock, Arkansas

Ethnicity: Well, my surname is French. My ancestor on my father’s side came to Williamsburg, Virgina, in 1700. He was a Huguenot, married to a Huguenot. For the first couple of generations, they married French, but from there, all Scots-Irish and English. I’mthe 11th generation of my line in America.

My mom’s maiden name is Welsh, but I don’t know when they came over, but it was most definitely well before the Civil War. That line as far back as that is all of English or Scots-Irish descent, though one of my ggmothers may have had some Indian blood (not proven).

So I’m WonderBread personified, basically.

Interesting - I’ve never been told that before. I guess my grandmothers must have looked very Polish, too, because I can see their features in my face.

Yes, my dear, you are smart!

Half Suomalainen

100% Yooper

Born and live in West Virginia within 30 miles of where my father’s ancestors settled 250 years ago (OK…my family doesn’t have much ambition…).

On my mother’s side I’m 100% German.

On Dad’s side about 75% German (there were a couple of Scotsmen in the woodpile)

Born and grew up in southern WV, now in southeastern PA. Largest identifiable component Welsh (paternal grandfather), remainder certifiable American mongrel, mostly northern European with maybe (according to family tradition) some Native American. Raised Methodist, now Roman Catholic.

Bengal is in India. Perhaps you mean Bangladeshi?

As for me, I am wholly Indian, no mixed blood so far.
