Poll: Would you want to see anatomy posters in the Vet's office

This!!! Keep the posters (tatty or not) and lose the TV.

If it was just a co-worker and not a boss…take them down, roll them up and return them to the co-worker and tell him/her that they were bothering people. If you get complaints about the content of a nature show…it would be believable that you got complaints about the posters. Besides, they are bothering someone very important. They are bothering you.

I do agree that posters in any sort of medical office shouldn’t be worn out tatters.

I think it’s beyond silly to think anyone would be offended by seeing anatomy posters of pets. As has been said above, there are anatomy posters in doctor’s offices and people don’t seem to have a problem with those, so why should one of an animal be offensive? Sure it would be nice if they were prettily framed, but no big deal if not. If the posters themselves don’t offend you and only their condition does, ask about getting new ones?

If you’re talking about the same ones they have at human doctors, of course. (If you mean actual, real photos, ew) As for people complaining, what the fuck? Screw them, they’re stupid.

Now, obviously, if you have worn and tattered posters, then they should be taken down and replaced. But that has nothing to do with the subject matter.

To tell you the truth I am a little suspicious if a vet’s office is too fancy with purely aesthetic upgrades (as opposed to fancy with the type of equipment and services they offer) – where’s my money going anyway? To pay for dog art? All things being equal I prefer an office to be utilitarian. And anatomy posters fit right in there (and can be helpful during exams). Fresh ones might be better from your point of view but they are certainly appropriate.

And the person who complained about the nature show was obviously a Very Special Snowflake ™, but I too would prefer no TV.

I find them interesting. It’s be great if they also looked nice, but I don’t really care as long as they aren’t grimy.

I really enjoyed the posters in my vet’s office. I think they were very informative, especially the one about telling whether or not your pet was overweight. My vets were always running late so I spent a lot of time staring at those posters and to be honest I can’t remember what sort of shape they were in!

When I had to have my girl put down we spent a lot of time waiting in an office in an emergency clinic. But the room we were in was the neurologist’s room (which is different than a regular exam room in the emergency clinic) and I remember there were pictures and thank-you notes on the walls, and a model or two of a spine. If there were un-framed or ratty pics anywhere in the room, I’m not remembering. I just remember my girl.

If the quality of the posters bother you - fix them!

Kind of tough to use the poster overlay if it’s framed, don’t you think? I say no big deal.

Before-and-after disembowelment photos might be a bit much, but I certainly don’t mind the anatomy posters.

You learn a lot of stuff about your dog while waiting for the vet to show up.

Also, I prefer anatomy posters to a bunch of cards from people who are happy that Gidget and Bandit are back in the pink of health.

I never said it was fancy. It’s nice. We got some nice framed pictures of pets for the walls. The frames are ikea and then we got a deal on the pics because the photographer is the wife of a vet. Nothing fancy, just nice.

We have never had these sorts of posters because when we need to show a client where their pet broke a bone, we just show them the xrays. If we need to show what normal bones, muscles and organs look like we use a book. We rarely ever need to do that and the client rarely ever asks for a reference. In the past we had framed posters of dog breeds and cat breeds and I think these went over better. People always looked at these. They’d try to pick out breeds that they thought looked like their pet.

As for the posters, there are no overlays to lift, it’s just the skeleton superimposed over a dog, then there’s another of muscles and another of organs. It’s three huge posters. The cat room only has the cat skeleton. The “dog room” is our larger room, it has a lift table on one long wall and on the opposite wall there is room to bring in a gurney if we need it. The posters are hung low on this wall where we usually put the gurney. I am pretty sure these posters will be taking a beating from the gurney and will look much worse. It is under our xray lightbox and we had to add a protector around the cord and outlet because we kept bashing it with the gurney. The posters are hung barely 4 feet up the wall so they are not even at a comfortable height for most people to look at. The cat skeleton is hung low in the other room as well.

The first night they were up we had clients that were in that room first and they left their dog, when they came back for the dog they were put in the cat room and made the comment “oh, we get to look at a cat skeleton now”, the tone was sarcastic. So this is what prompted me to think that clients may not want to look at these and see how other people felt. As I said I should have probably taken the time to explain all this and maybe how they are displayed may have had more of an impact.

I am not going to take them down, I am just going to wait and see what happens for now.

So fix how they’re hung and make the best of it. It doesn’t seem that big a deal.

I’d much prefer some dog-eared (heh) posters than the specimen jar of heartworms (along with the heart they infected) on the counter in the appointment room. Ew.

My vets have always used posters and plastic models to show me what they’re describing or recommending.

I get upset if I take my car into the garage and they have posters of vehicles with their bonnets up.

It wouldn’t bother me as a customer, because I’d be looking at them in a clinical sort of way. But if I worked there, I’d want the pictures to at least be framed, to look more professional.

If there are complaints, relay that to the doctors. If not, you could still tell them you think they look unprofessional, and that they should be framed to better fit in with the other decor.
