For a long time I wondered how people could injury themselves with a Q-tip: if you insert it too deeply into your ear you begin to have a coughing fit, so **why** would you continue to push it in further and hurt yourself? Well, as I learned just a handful of years ago, this cough [is a reflex](https://www.practiceupdate.com/content/prevalence-of-arnold-nerve-reflex-in-adults-and-children-with-chronic-cough/66394) that only 2-3% of healthy people and 25% of people with chronic cough disorders including cough variant asthma have. So, there’s the Q-tip mystery solved. Have you **discovered as an adult** that something about your body that you thought was normal/typical/standard issue, but turns out to be pretty uncommon in other people? _Poll ([view on site](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642/2865))_ [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642.md?page=142) [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642.md?page=144)
