Does your workplace actually have a cafeteria? By cafeteria I mean I place where you can buy a fully prepared meal, not just a break room where you can heat up food you brought from home or buy something from a vending machine. If you’re retired or otherwise not working, did the last place you worked have one? If you’re working from home but have an office you could go to, is there one there? _Poll ([view on site](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642/3168))_ ---

An American couple moves abroad. They like their new tropical surroundings - tasty food, good pay, friendly locals, cheap healthcare, beautiful scenery, convenient transportation, fun nightlife, good beaches and snorkeling, low taxes. There’s just one problem, though…the insects. Between every two trees is a big Nephila Maculata. Giant Tettigoniidae katydids constantly cling to their house’s glass windows, lashing out painfully with spiked legs if touched. Shiny green beetles climb up and down over the hung laundry, leaving droppings everywhere. An average of 8-12 Serinethenae soapberry bugs squeeze in through the window screens every night somehow and flutter near the living-room lighting. The cockroaches are not only big and spiky, but _fly_. Worst of all, big Sparassidae spiders dart up and down the house walls and out from under the sofas day and night. After a few months, the couple sit down and have a discussion. One is less-than-thrilled about the bugs, but can tolerate them as a tradeoff for the benefits of the good life. The other is petrified and wants to return to America. _Poll ([view on site](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642/3177))_ ---

You’re booking a flight. The airline allows you to pre-select your seat at the time of booking, for a fee. So you pay the fee to assure you will get your preferred seat, either window or aisle, whatever your preference is. Fast forward to the flight. You board and take your assigned seat that you paid to pre-book. A family with a small child boards after you. That family did not pay to pre-book their seats, and therefore was assigned some random middle seats scattered throughout the cabin. The child is assigned the seat next to you. One of the parents asks if you would mind switching seats with them, so they can sit by their child. Do you give up your seat? _Poll ([view on site](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642/3181))_ ---
