A friend of yours has had a novel published, but the genre is one that you have a mild dislike of. Your dislike is mild enough that you could probably get through it if you wanted to, but strong enough that you would pass on it if you didn’t know the author. Would you read it? _Poll ([view on site](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642/3386))_ ---

You are an Ob-Gyn. You are in a blue state. You read in the news one day that a pro-life red state is suffering a catastrophic health crisis due to the lack of gynecologists in the region - thousands of women suffering from dire conditions. Many of those women are pro-choice. The clinics and hospitals in the red states are offering salaries and benefits that are substantially higher than what you earn in your blue state, and without gynecologists, these women will suffer greatly, and a significant number will die. But you will face substantially greater legal risk in that state than the blue state, due to the pro-life laws. _Poll ([view on site](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642/3390))_ ---

You have a rich loner-hermit neighbor, named Bob. He is very nice but has a mental disorder of some sort. Everyone likes him, but he rarely talks. One day, you see a landscaping crew on his property. Intrigued, you watch closely. Turns out they are installing a big man-made pond on Bob’s property. Aerators are installed, water is piped in, everything is set up, it looks beautiful. Job takes a week. Weeks later, you see Bob with a fishing pole, tackle, bait, sitting at the pond all day. He does this every day, but never catches any fish. You can see he is getting forlorn and frustrated. Suddenly, it hits you: _Bob never put any fish in the pond._ He doesn’t realize the connection. You feel bad. What do you do? _Poll ([view on site](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/polls-only-no-discussion/953642/3397))_ ---
