You are a movie director and there is a particular social ill (such as racism or sexism, etc.) that you would like to take on. Half of people argue that you ought to make a movie showing oppression and discrimination, in order to highlight the ill. The other half argues that you ought to make a movie showing everyone getting along well in an ideal world (a movie world in which the characters truly show no racism or sexism or bigotry,) in order to showcase to the audience how things _ought_ to be. In other words, a negative-portrayal vs. positive-portrayal disagreement. According to the internet, which is never wrong, the explosion of usage of “slop” as a pejorative is a deliberate campaign by 4chan to expose and lure young people into their way of thinking, including antisemitism (which is the ultimate origin of the usage). This is something they’ve done in the past to some success, such as with the OK hand gesture and the concepts of “chads” and “alpha males”: using a meme’s spread to prime the minds of others to their advantage. Two magical buttons appear in front of every adult capable of pressing buttons. A disembodied voice says you have to press one of them, either - button 1: a button that will do nothing if greater than 50% of the people press it, or - button 2: a button that will kill every person that pressed button 1 if less than 50% of all the people pressed it, i.e. if greater than 50% of people press button 2, everyone who will press button 1 dies.
