Hey, I"m here in Raleigh, right near Poly and wife. I’d like to help also. The car idea is a good one. That is what they prolly need most, as it is what you use to go get food and such necessities. I’d like to hear more about that and maybe try and do something about it. As far as the puter goes…I do all of the shipping and recieving for my company, and can receive for Poly whatever is sent. I also have tons of puter parts here, but I’d need a few odd and ends (mostly a processor) to make him a nice puter from all of these spare parts. I also have a paypal account, and am willing to contribute or collect…but Scotticher is the one we usually turn to when there is a collection for someone being taken up and we need a trusted doper to handle the monies. ---

I have some extra computer parts laying around (a CDR-W drive, a DVD drive, and maybe another), I’m not sure what sort of condition they are in, but if that will help, I’m game to send it. I can also contribute a little money. ---

Perhaps what we should do it immediately get someone who is willing to collect whatever people volunteer to this particular cause. Let’s do that right away; I don’t care who it is. Sounds like aenea is the logical person for physical stuff, but for money/paypal it can be anyone. If Dopers wish to have Scotticher do it because of her history doing this in the past, let’s do that (but someone drag her in to officially say yes first!). But I’d also like to discuss the wider issue of an emergency support fund, perhaps after the holidays? Setting it up will be simple, but discussing how to administrate it (and anticipating thorny issues) needs to take place. If it makes the mods uncomfortable, we can discuss it off-list. ---

Ok, well officially so far it’s this: If you want to mail parts and pieces or whatever, the address is listed above. As far as contributions go, I’ve email Scotticher, and asked her to drop by this thread to consult. As I mentioned earlier, she has handled this sort of situation for us in the recent past and is know by the multitudes to be very very honest and trustworthy. ---
