# Pooh goes off copyright today in US

The copyright on _Winnie the Pooh_ expired yesterday. _The House at Pooh Corners_ still has a couple years to run. The situation is different in UK since it depends on the author’s death, not the publication. My grandson is planning a stage adaptation of the first book.

I remember when the new copyright law took effect and people hollered that nothing would go into the public domain until the too distant far future.

The future is now the past.

Just for laughs, here’s [WIki’s page on stuff published in 1926](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1926_in_literature). I expected Hemingway, but Nabokov surprised me. Not a hugely distinguished year overall. (I’m sure somebody will jump in to dispute this.)
