Poorly Done Moments in Otherwise Good Movies

I love the movie Fame, but I can’t bear the cafeteria scene; I have to scan through it. It’s not just that it’s OTT; I also think it’s implausible, and that’s hard to accept in a film that’s otherwise trying to be gritty and realistic. I mean, there’s so much noise in the room before Bruno starts in on the piano, I’m not sure they would hear him, and I really don’t think they’d hear Coco singing. Beyond that, the whole number is just too well-coordinated for something that’s supposed to be spontaneous. And beyond that, this is the scene that causes other people to scoff and refuse to believe me when I say this is a powerful, well-made film.

Actually, the LEAST plausible aspect of “Fame” Was that there was only ONE gay student at the High School for the Performing Arts.
