More papal death protocol: the cardinal who taps the pope with the hammer calls out to him by his birth name. Iā€™m probably going to mangle the spelling horribly, but IIRC itā€™s Karol Wojtyla. After they call his name and tap him three times, heā€™s offically dead. Iā€™ve always presumed that this ritual dates back to the days when everyone was afraid of being buried alive. ---

I havenā€™t read any of this, but tonight we were discussing Jesse jackson getting involved in Schiavo case, and someone mentioned he was throwing his hat in the ring on this cause. ā€œKeep Pope alive!ā€ would be his rallying cry. ---
