[/QUOTE] No, we are supposed to respect him because he is a theologian and biblical scholar of the highest order who has spent his entire life in the study and contemplation of Christian teachings. That ā€œempty theologyā€ that you so disdain is _exactly_ what he was giving his opinion on. What you said is even sillier than saying we only listen to the Supreme Court judges because they wear funny robes. ---

Which means that if you are a self aggrandising megalomaniac who thinks the world should ā€œrecognise your powerā€ you can use them to say whatever you want them to say. The bummer is though, people like myself and \*\*Der Trihs \*\* are going to consider the personal choices you and your church have made about the biblical teachings you are or are not choosing to enforce or recognise, and the interpretation you are choosing to put upon them, and hold you personally accountable. We are going to refuse to let you get away with the bullshit excuse beloved by sages, mystics, religious leaders and other charlatans, namely that ā€œall you are doing is studying and comtemplatingā€ mystic teachings, and that your pronouncements choices about what is right, wrong and indifferent are not your own. ---

No amount of the study of theology will tell you a thing about God, because thereā€™s no evidence to back it up; itā€™s simply a very large pile of empty speculation without even the ability to show that what they speculate about is possible, much less real, much less the way they say it is. I say that **I** am the one true Messiah, and you should give me all your money or God will smite you. Smite, I say ! That has exactly as much support as the Popeā€™s opinion on what God wants; none whatsover. All that theology he studied is without meaning, because thereā€™s no evidence underlying it. Without that evidence, his opinion of the right way to follow God is no better than that of some random six year old. This whole fuss makes me agree with the Pope less but respect him more. The differences are real & heā€™s not afraid to affirm them. Heā€™s not condemning all non- Catholics to Hell. Heā€™s just saying that the Catholic Church is The True Church, all other churches & faiths are lacking, but Godā€™s/Christā€™s Grace still saves those outside the visible True Church. I say the same about Trinitarian Incarnational Christianity, whether it be Catholic, Orthodox, Reformed, or Other- The Triune God, of Whom Jesus is the Incarnation of the Son, is the Only Real God, all faiths which focus on other concepts of God are lacking, but God/Christ still saves many in those faiths, not because they are correct or because it doesnā€™t make any difference, but because of His Love & Grace. ---
