The problem with sebaceous cysts is that they keep refilling with sebum after being emptied. They’re not exactly zits - not unless they get infected, in which case they become abscesses from hell. Only way to get rid of one is to have the sebaceous gland and its attached sac cut out. Or at least, that’s what my doctor told me. (I have a small sebaceous cyst behind my left ear. I call it Sebastian.) ---

When I spiral fractured my left femur a couple years ago the er doctor warned me they needed to do traction to get the bone parts aligned. I was all for it, 'cause I knew it would bring immediate relief. Nevertheless, the feeling of bone sliding on bone then ‘clunk’ as it dropped back in place was… unique. I have a pill bottle full of my kidneystones. Stood in the delivery room, in full view while my daughter was being delivered, cracking jokes. Got the doc to laugh. From the first time I broke my left leg I got 8 screws, a plate and a bolt holding the bones beneath my knee together. Over time one of the screws began to stick out about 1/2" under the skin - I kept hitting it against coffee tables and stuff. Hurt like hell. I asked my family physician what I should do about it. His words “Friday night, Jack Daniels, an exacto knife and an allen wrench should do it.” I almost took him up on it. ---

:hurk: Why did I watch that? I shut it off before she started poking her finger around in there. I can only imagine how much it must have hurt to have that massive thing on his back. I get some very small sebaceous cysts but thank God nothing on that scale. I bet he felt a lot better when she was done! ---

Actually, it sort of reminded me of my Infamous Abscess Story - the thing on my face about that large when they finally lanced it. Except, it was in an OR with a reconstructive surgeon, everyone in attendance was wearing a face-shield as well as gowns and gloves, and I don’t have a video. Oh, and my scar probably looks a hell of a lot better than the one that guy ended up with.
