Most of the weekend was a blur to me. I remember picking up people at the airport several times on Thursday and Friday, and crossing my fingers and hoping that the weather would clear up by Saturday. And oh sweet Cecil, did the weather clear up for the porkday. There were a lot of people there. Dopers, Livejournallers, family, friends, coworkers. Good mingling. Good pork. Good pictures. Don’t expect me to remember everyone, 'cos all I remember is circulating through the crowd and going from table to table. And pooping a tenderloin after the fact. We started around 10:30 am and people trickled in for the next few hours. Beverages were consumed, flame was breathed, sporting goods were tossed, conversation was made. Around 3 pm, Sir Oinksalot arrived, and all of you who say that the pineapple crown and orange rind earrings were too much, I say feh. FEH. Food. Naps. Ultimate frisbee. Football that left everyone sore. Frisbees lost in trees and ponds. Lips chapped and beards singed from firebreathing mishaps. The sun went down, the fireplace went up, the s’mores were made (including a godawful s’mork that had pork, baked beans, sauerkraut, chocolate, and marshmallows on a graham cracker) and the party continued. The butcher enjoyed himself, too, and is giving me 10 lb of bacon and 10 lb of ground pork when I come in to pick it up this week, as a thank-you. He’s quite the bizzomb. A few short memories: **Ivar** , thanks for Loki not eating Spanky. And even more thanks for the great beer. Less of it survived than I had expected. **Spanky** , if the other dog has over a hundred pounds on you and he’s coming to investigate the flock, LET HIM. I appreciate the singleminded determination to protect the herd, for for god’s sake, man. **Dangerosa** , the cake was wonderful. Utterly, totally, and completely wonderful. I don’t know if a picture was taken of it, but it was served in the evening along with **chique** ’s homemade ice cream, and as far as I know, it send people into a diabetic coma. Either that, or they were worn out from a day of activity and pork. **Tripler** , the fire was good, but next year I expect you to make a small fusion reactor out of sticks, pork, and pond scum. If you can’t, then what the hell’s the military good for, anyway? **Everyone else** , thanks a lot for coming. I was happy to see such a great turnout. Saturday June 7th, 2003, is the tentative date for PorkDope II: This Time It’s War, with a pig served at noon and a second pig served at 6 pm. ---

See, toldja I’d forget things. This is why I put off my writeup for so long. Great thanks out to **thinksnow** as well for the bulk of the beer, and though it wasn’t _great_ beer, I heard no complaints. Without our kilt-wearing brethren, we would have been out of beer by noon, and then what would we have done? ---

It seems that some of that beer might have been spoiled–it gave me a pretty bad headache the next morning. Maybe we could take back the empties and exchange them. ---

I blew fire second best (after **lno** ). We even did some double blows (FIRE-blows, you pervos!), which were impressive. I was going to give **thinksnow** the second-place honors, but then he tried to burn off his face. I win. Cold pork tastes like cold turkey, only better. And I owe **lno** some tupperware. Had a great time, everyone. ---

The photos of the event are wonderful! Thanks for taking 'em and posting 'em, **thinksnow** and **malkavia**. Beadalin blows _fire_. Beadalin spits _lamp oil_. Wish I’d gotten there earlier and could have stayed longer-- the beer and food and people were all great, and I even got to play Ultimate Frisbee for the first time in ever! It’s been so long since I’ve been to a party that I’m pretty sure I was a crappy conversationalist, but y’all put up with me anayway. It was a terrific time, and made me feel less sorry for myself heading into hectic hours and hours and hours of work at an event my office team pulled off Sunday - Tuesday. Definitely bummed, though, that I missed the ps’mork composition. **lno** , you are the bestest host. ---

At some point during the festivities, I think I finally figured out why hardly anyone ever remembers me after these things: I don’t really introduce myself. I sit down, and talk, and drink, and even have some wonderful conversations, but, generally, I never think to say who I am. Oh, and I never do anything memorably stupid. Never-ever. Nope. Not me. At any rate, it’s me, Sir John Gielgud, best Cheapass-game-instruction-reader in the Midwest. ---

Glad you guys picked up the cake. Sorry I missed it. I had a lovely game of golf, though. Was hitting the ball really well (tho’ my short game blew).
