I uh…accidently went to a porn site on the web. When I went to close it about 1 million other pages popped up and it was a 5 minute battle to shut all the windows. I know there has to be a way in IE to put an end to this. What is it.

Accidentally, hmmmm? 😉 SOMETIMES, you can press F4 and it’ll stop. Other times, you’re just stuck closing windows. There oughta be a law against this sort of programming.

you could try popnot software/shareware. This does it’s best to stop that sort of this thing. Or type something like stop popup windows into google. There are a couple of other programs that do th same thing.

Why not just turn off scripting? Works for me. Uh, that is… if I were to visit those sites, I’m sure it would work for me. At any rate, Tools -\> Internet Options -\> Security -\> Custom Level -\> Scripting -\> Active Scripting -\> Disable

Well in IE if you hit the escape key (upper left of your keyboard, marked ESC :)) it has the same effect as hitting the stop button. This is good because many popups don’t have a stop button on them. If you stop them from loading fast enough, the script on that page triggering the popups can’t be loaded. Then you just close the window and it goes away. So try hitting ESC. 🙂

You could try downloading NoAds.

From the site:

> [@](#):
>
> NoAds detects when Internet popup advertisements appear, and quickly closes them. A popup ad is an ad that appears in a new web browser window, and requires you to manually close that window. NoAds is fully configurable, allowing you to specify which ads you want to be destroyed automatically. It fully supports most popular web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and America Online. The program is very easy to use, and stays running in the System Tray (next to the time) for quick access.

It appears to be free.

Not that I would know firsthand (smirk), but the key is to turn off java and javascript in your browser.

Most porn sites have “redirects” which will open all those windows so they can get hits. They basically trade hits and click thrus.

Also, as was stated, and this works for all sites with ads, popup killer software works well, especially if it lets you add sites. IOW my firewall software lets me add any url I want to be blocked, like “[doubleclick.net](http://doubleclick.net)” or “[ads.blah.com](http://ads.blah.com)”, etc

No, the key is to visit _reputable_ porn sites that don’t _do_ that crap.

I’d link to some, but they don’t like it if we do that.
