Our house is served by a Netgear cable modem/gateway/router, which is hardwired to the landlord’s computer and gives me WiFi-G.

I forwarded port 50000 (start range at 50000, end range at 50000) to my IP address, and with the landlord watching, unfortunately demonstrated a direct relationship between the forwarding setting and his computer not getting web pages. This was done on, off, on, and off again. When the port was forwarded, he couldn’t get [CNN.com](http://CNN.com).

Does anyone have any kind of explanation for this? It’s like I’m in some bizarro world.
