> There was The Newsroom, which is almost entirely dealing with actual news stories and how a fictional news network would cover them (almost always in a cringey way)

For that matter, The West Wing has the [Isaac and Ishmael episode](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_and_Ishmael), though not directly about the 9/11 attacks, was a response to them.

> Sometime in the mid-80s a cable channel (I want to say A&E) aired 12 hours of CBS news coverage of the JFK assassination in real time. I was glue to the set the whole time.

Yeah, that was 1988, the 25th anniversary. I was happily unemployed then and the coverage was riveting.

I’ll nominate the movie Love Field, which is centered around Michelle Pfeiffer’s character trying to see JFK when he was visiting Dallas:

> Love Field is a 1992 American drama film written by Don Roos and directed by Jonathan Kaplan, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Dennis Haysbert. It was released in the United States on December 11, 1992, by Orion Pictures. It is an example of a representation of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in popular culture. For her performance, Pfeiffer earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

Even better is some documentary, sorry can’t remember the name, that stiches together a ton of the videos taken that day (phone, news, etc.) to show what happened _in real time_. My son who was a baby on 9/11 said he didn’t really understand that day, the emotions, the uncertainty, the overall WTF is happening, until he saw that documentary.

This one was born from what was to be a documentary about a probationary firefighter.

That one I could only watch once.

_World Trade Center_ is another one I could only watch once. Everyone thought Oliver Stone would make his 911 movie political or about conspiracies. It’s not. It’s about two survivors against all odds.

> Honestly, the best fictional representation of 9/11 that I’ve ever seen was The Onion’s first issue after the attack. I can’t find the entire issue, but just reading the headlines still gets to me.

I remember seeing that online when it first came out, and being really impressed with the fine comedy line they walked with that issue. The ‘Not Knowing What Else To Do, Woman Bakes American Flag Cake’ article (in the lower right of your image), was surprisingly poignant, capturing that sense of helplessness we all had as to what we could possibly do to help as ordinary Americans, other than donating money and blood.

They had a good follow-up article an issue or two later, the headline of which was something like ‘A Grieving America Longs To Care About Stupid Shit Again’ with a collage of images of Britney Spears with a snake wrapped around her and lots of other pre-9/11 stupid shit.

I think the story that really captures the moment was the “Massive attack on Pentagon page 14 news”, because it really was that. Any other day, the Pentagon would have been the headline everywhere, but that day? Just an addendum.
