For that matter, The West Wing has the Isaac and Ishmael episode, though not directly about the 9/11 attacks, was a response to them.
Yeah, that was 1988, the 25th anniversary. I was happily unemployed then and the coverage was riveting.
I’ll nominate the movie Love Field, which is centered around Michelle Pfeiffer’s character trying to see JFK when he was visiting Dallas:
Even better is some documentary, sorry can’t remember the name, that stiches together a ton of the videos taken that day (phone, news, etc.) to show what happened in real time. My son who was a baby on 9/11 said he didn’t really understand that day, the emotions, the uncertainty, the overall WTF is happening, until he saw that documentary.
I’ve seen that one which is awesome but the one I saw was videos
This one was born from what was to be a documentary about a probationary firefighter.
That one I could only watch once.
World Trade Center is another one I could only watch once. Everyone thought Oliver Stone would make his 911 movie political or about conspiracies. It’s not. It’s about two survivors against all odds.
I remember seeing that online when it first came out, and being really impressed with the fine comedy line they walked with that issue. The ‘Not Knowing What Else To Do, Woman Bakes American Flag Cake’ article (in the lower right of your image), was surprisingly poignant, capturing that sense of helplessness we all had as to what we could possibly do to help as ordinary Americans, other than donating money and blood.
They had a good follow-up article an issue or two later, the headline of which was something like ‘A Grieving America Longs To Care About Stupid Shit Again’ with a collage of images of Britney Spears with a snake wrapped around her and lots of other pre-9/11 stupid shit.
I think the story that really captures the moment was the “Massive attack on Pentagon page 14 news”, because it really was that. Any other day, the Pentagon would have been the headline everywhere, but that day? Just an addendum.
