And of course, the absolute spectacular [self-destructing FreakFreely flaming trainwreck of a final thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37697). It starts out bad, gets worse, seems ready to die off, then derails into some sort of bizarre surrealist performance art somewhere around page three. From here things pick up speed, descending in an ever steepening downward spiral. And then **Freak** makes a final post. I looked back at some of the linked threads, and two things occurred to me: 1. With **gaspode** vs. **Satori the vegetarian** …why was everyone so mean to that guy? I read the thread just waiting fo some one to come in and call **gaspode** out for being a royal prick, but no one seemed bothered by it. I mean, maybe the guy’s facts were off, but at least he was polite about it. I felt kind of bad for him. 2. **Screwtape** wasn’t lying, he was joking. I personally thought he was pretty funny. Again, I couldn’t see what made people so adversarial toward him. ---

I just read the **FreakFreely** thread. . . . Good God! :eek: As another board member said a few months ago about that very thread (paraphrased): “Until then I never thought I’d actually see someone actually descend into madness.” Seriously, that was really fucked up. ---

I can’t really say anything about any of the other posters mentioned in this thread, but I always liked **Gaspode**. At the very least, he provided one of my favorite flames in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=49062&highlight=peace) (specifically, the Dungeons and Dragons reference, on the second page of the thread). I find it hard to believe that he stopped posting to SDMB specifically because of a disagreement over how many pounds of grass it takes to produce a pound of meat. I also think its fairly smug of someone to congratulate themselves for making someone else stop posting on the boards. ---

For yojimbo, The poster you were refering to was Special K, or some version thereof, if I remeber right. Please note that there is another poster named Special\_Kay, whose history does not include any of the drama I’m rembering. The poster claimed to have a rare, fatal disease, but would not provide any specific information on it. Some people began to doubt her claim. Her husband then started posting under her name, saying that she was not expected to live past last September. Various means of proof were requested and denied, ending with the husband saying he would come back in September with proof of her death. I haven’t seen anything about it since. This is all from my memory of a year ago, so I may have some elements incorrect. I couldn’t find any links, any help would be appreciated. ---

I kinda hooted my old name of the board. It was **drayton** after Michael Drayton, the 16th century poet, but the only Drayton poem I knew was Sonnet 61. I felt like a poser so I changed it. Concidently, guess what Simpsons episode is on in my area. “What would Zorro do?..” ---
