Positive abortion news and experiences

Thanks for re-opening this thread, mods.

I had a vacuum aspiration of a very much wanted pregnancy in late 2017. The pregnancy was the result of our sixth IUI which had taken place a month earlier. For a few scary days we thought it might be an ectopic pregnancy. My reproductive endocrinologist looked at my hormone levels and ultrasounds and determined the pregnancy was non-viable. If I hadn’t been able to choose to have this very minor procedure done, I might have carried a fetus incompatible with life for many months. I might have had terrible complications from a later miscarriage, and lost future fertility. As it was, we were able to have the aspiration, and I fell pregnant again as the result of our first round of IVF a few months later. My baby is seven months old now.

Thanks to everyone who’s shared their story. Very brave, and valuable to others.

My wife went through a similar thing. It’s horrible, I could share several personal stories about failed IUI. It hurts when the thing you wanted, and you were trying to do, suddenly threatens your life and your future childrens’ lives. I’m glad that you finally had a good outcome.

I accompanied a friend, many years ago, to her appointment at the clinic at which she had an abortion.

Some years later, when she was further along in her life and better prepared, that same friend gave birth to several children (one at a time), and, with her husband, did a really good job of raising them. Some of them now have children of their own.

If she hadn’t had that abortion, none of those people would now exist. They are all excellent people.

My friend’s also done other important work in her life, which she might well not have been able to do if her life had been derailed by having to continue a pregnancy early on which she wasn’t ready for.

“I had an abortion and it saved my life”.

It’s about a woman’s ectopic pregnancy. Do note that the recent push from anti-abortion advocates is to argue that abortion is never medically necessary… including in the case of ectopic pregnancies.
